What Is SEO ?

Of Course Every Website Owner Has Heard of SEO, But How Many Actually Know What SEO Really Is????

Nearly every Business Owner that has a website has heard of the the term SEO and has a fair idea of exactly what SEO is . . . . or so I thought. Recently while talking to a client, I discovered that this wasn’t necessarily the case. What I discovered was there is some misconceptions about SEO, exactly what it is and what’s exactly relevant regarding your business website.

Therefore let’s get straight into it . . . .

Here’s What You Need to Know about SEO

  • There are two types of SEO, Onsite SEO and Offsite SEO.
  • The generic term SEO often refers to Offsite SEO.
  • The better optimised your Onsite SEO, the less work you’ll have to do on your Offsite SEO.
  • Onsite SEO is also essential to run an effective PPC campaign such as Google Adwords.

What is Onsite SEO and why is it So Important?

Onsite SEO is directly related to your website or blog. It has to do with the elements that make up your website, starting with the domain name and including the page content and the meta data, which is basically the information that the search engines use to help rank your website in the search results.

In other words it is directly related to how your website is constructed and what it is made up of, including the text, the photos and even the videos and audio if you have any.

What is Offsite SEO and why is it So Important?

Offsite SEO has to do with how your website appears elsewhere on the internet on other websites and blogs etc.

In other words it has to do with the amount of links that are on other websites that point back to your business website or blog.

Simplistically speaking the more links that point back to your website the more important your website appears in the eyes of the search engines and as a result you then have the potential to rank much higher in the search results for your particular keywords.

Having said that though, not all links that point to your website are regarded equal in the eyes of the search engines. Links from more important websites have more value than those from less important websites.

So what you find is that Offsite SEO isn’t necessarily a straight forward topic and as such is quite often outsourced by many businesses because it does require quite a bit of expertise. The other important point about Offsite SEO is that it can be quite time consuming and as a result can be very expensive. Regardless of the cost, there are many businesses that do spend large amounts of money on Offsite as once they get onto the first page of the search engines, especially for competitive keywords, the rewards can be quite great.

What is the Relationship Between Onsite and Offsite SEO?

Understanding this is the secret to ranking well with search engines . . . .

As I mentioned earlier, the more time, effort, money and research you put into your Onsite SEO the less time, money and effort you’ll need to put into your Offsite SEO. It’s as simple as that.

You see ranking well with the search engines is a bit like a motor race. You’re basically competing against other websites for a few prized positions on page 1 of the search engines. In other words the only way to get onto page 1 is to depose or beat your competition.

And how do you do this ?

Well you do it by having better SEO than your competition (both Onsite and Offsite SEO).

But here’s something that many business website owners don’t do. They don’t spend very much time at all on their Onsite SEO but then go and spend vast sums of money and time on their Offsite SEO. Now if you want to compare this to motor racing, then it’s a bit like going down to your Ford or Holden dealer and buying a Commodore or Falcon and spending an absolute fortune on it in, an attempt to try and win Bathurst.

Now if you spend enough on your car you’ll probably win the race, but only if everyone else has done the same (ie buy a street car and hot it up). If you are serious about winning though, then what you need to do, is buy or build a racing car right from the start . . . . from the ground up and reason why is obvious . . . . a purpose built race car will always beat a hotted up street car no matter how much you spend on the street car. End of story!

So what’s the lesson here?

Well, if you’re serious a about getting your site onto page 1 of the search engines then you really do need to ensure your Onsite SEO is spot on because if it’s not, it’s just like trying to win Bathurst in hotted up Commodore.

Now the unfortunate fact for many business website owners is that they have street cars that they are now throwing vast sums of money at in the form of Offsite SEO in an attampt to get onto page 1 of the search engines . . . . and you know what?

Many are succeeding, but only because most of their competition is doing the same are driving hotted up street cars as well.

So here’s the good news for Small Business Owners

Building a Fully Researched, Optimised Business Website is no where near as expensive as it is to build a racing car from the ground up (Obviously!). But more importantly, it is much, much less expensive than spending vast amounts of money every month on Offsite SEO fees.

Therefore if you’re in small business, you can get a Business Website built that is very highly optimised for Onsite SEO that will allow you to compete with your competitors websites, that don’t have very good Onsite SEO, but do have vast amounts of links (Offsite SEO) pointed at them.

So you can see, Onsite SEO is very important for making your business website competitive and profitable for your business.

Here at WebBiZsites we understand all about Onsite SEO and exactly what it is. We’d love to have the opportunity to discuss with you exactly what we can do to help get your Small Business Website onto the first page of the search engines.

But before you contact us . . . . here’s something else that’s important to know . . . .

Why Onsite SEO is Vital when running a PPC Campaign.

If you’re running a PPC campaign such as Google Adwords then one of the most important things you need to understand is that many of the rules regarding ranking well in the free section of the search results apply equally to running a successful PPC campaign.

In other words, good Onsite SEO is a very vital ingredient in any PPC campaign.

Why?

Well, your onsite SEO has a direct relationship on your Quality Score and as such will have a direct effect on how much you pay per click, how many clicks you’ll get and ultimately how profitable your PPC campaign will be.

Now the other amazing thing is that just like the free section of the search engines, there are just as many business websites that run PPC campaigns with badly optimised websites which means . . . . firstly they are paying far more for their clicks than they need to be and secondly they are very easy to compete against if your website is highly optimised with good Onsite SEO.

So you can see, Onsite SEO is very important for a PPC campaign. But even if you don’t have any plans to run a PPC campaign (when you get your business website built) at least you’ll be able to hit the ground running if you decide to change your mind further down the track.

Therefore as you can see there are some real benefits to ensuring your Onsite SEO is well researched and applied correctly to become the foundation of your business website, because if you neglect it, ultimately it will just cost you more money and more time in the long run when trying to make your business website more profitable.

Contact WebBiZsites to discover how we can create or renovate your Business Website so that it is high on Onsite SEO and so it will then send you more customers to your business for much less cost for you.
